Inspiration for the New Nursery

I’m thinking about doing something really different for our new nursery. We’re hoping to create a chic, gender-neutral nursery that is bright and fun. Noah’s nursery used the colors pistachio and turquoise with touches of argyle to add a little prep-school flair. I’m still obsessed with turquoise and crisp, clean design. But, this time I want to do something over-the-top.

Here’s a mood board of inspiration:

Crisp and Chic Nursery Ideas

Top Left green lattice fabric is from Waverly. I’m thinking about using it to do a dramatic wall of fabric and valance backdrop for the crib.

Working clockwise, the crib sheet is Cloud Bamboo from Serena and Lily. And, the pouf is also from Serena and Lily. It’s a total luxury item that I’d never get to spend $400 on, but I love it!

The black & white pillow is from Ikea. I wish is was navy blue! Beneath that, the white fixture is from Ikea. I was looking for something with a cool texture and I think this might work. Unfortunately, I can’t use a fun light due to my husband’s obsession with ceiling fans, but a girl can dream!

Beneath that is a rocking chair is the Vinnie Blue Cradle Chair from

The amazing centerpiece of the room is the $99 Somnat crib from Ikea. I love the idea of a colorful crib. This one actually gets great reviews for safety and durability. Noah’s crib is a beautiful lifestyle crib that will eventually turn into a full size bed. It was a gift from his Grandma and Grandpa and we love it! But, I’m having trouble committing to another piece of furniture that we’ll have for such a long time. This seems like a great way to have a little fun with the nursery design without making a big commitment.

The navy and white rug is also from Ikea. I love it as a rug, but I also think it might be a fun way to paint a floor! If the floor was painted with this pattern, that would add a lot of visual interest and we could add a fluffy, warm, white rug on top of it. Hmmm…

The Dashchaund Lamp is from Urban Outfitters and it is pure fun. I this he (she?) would look adorable on top of a dresser or bookshelf.

The background color will be a pale celery green. No, not the same green we already have in the room. That would be too easy!

What do you think? Should we go for it with a turquoise and kelly green scheme?

  1. It’s gorgeous!

  2. Thanks, Quinn! You don’t think it’s too much? Too modern? Too girl?

  3. I think it is more “boy” than girl. If anyone that I know can pull this off, it is you Meg!

  4. Oh another thing I am running into is a certain toddler in brooklyn’s room all the time playing and touching everything…something to keep in mind :)
