Color Story: Noah’s New Bedroom

After months of deliberating, I have finally made a decision about the paint colors in Noah’s new bedroom. I was at a loss of what to do because every idea I had went with a white bed. But, he has a black bed. I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it was a block for me.

I also wasn’t sure what to do for a dresser in his room. He currently has a “matching” set of black furniture and I wanted to mix it up. Inspired by Centsational Girl, I searched every single day on Craigslist for a cool vintage-looking dresser to paint. I found the perfect one last night and I’m picking it up on Saturday! I could barely sleep last night as I waited for a response from the seller. I’ll post photos of the dresser once it’s in my possession. Best part: It’s only $75!

Here are the final colors. I’m off to pick up paint this afternoon…no turning back!

Noah's New Bedroom Scheme

The main wall color is going to be Sea Spray by Sherwin Williams (far left) with a fun accent stripe of Orange Burst by Behr. One wall will have a big magnetic chalkboard (I’ll post the step-by-step) in the color Caribe by Behr. The fabulous dresser will be Bird’s Egg by Benjamin Moore (top).

Yes. I had to drive to three paint stores to gather my swatches for this project. But, it was completely worth it!

I’ll keep you updated with the painting progress this week. I’ll start with the area where the ceiling meets the wall. I always paint that the ceiling color to ensure a nice cut in line and prevent the old color from peeking through. Next, I’ll cut in the ceiling and around the trim. Then, the walls…next is the stripe, and finally the piece de resistance…the chalkboard. It’s going to take at least a week, but I can’t wait to see the end result!

I also have some fun art projects lined up for Noah’s new bedroom. As soon as I figure out how we’ll hang them (bolt them) on the walls, I’ll post photos and directions. I really hope that this “big boy” bedroom has a more fun, interesting, designer look to it than his nursery. Don’t get me wrong, I did the best job I could with his nursery but now I have fresh new ideas and resources.
