Project Roundup

Right now, I’m working on a bunch of projects around the house…all at the same time. I think I may have a little bit of project attention deficit disorder. I blame my indecisiveness. And the fact that I like so many different ideas. And that it’s so difficult to find the resources that I need for my projects. Do others have this problem?

Just to get organized and to admit that I have a problem, I thought that I’d let you in on what I’ve been working on (in no particular order, of course) in Noah’s room alone. We’ll get to the next steps for everything else (Guest bedroom, Nursery, Living Room) another day.

-The new dresser…It’s almost done! I hunted down the perfect dresser on Craigslist, primed it, painted it, and polished the hardware. Now, I’m working on distressing and correcting. Tomorrow, I’ll try to find time for adding two coats of Polycrilic. I’d love to have it moved up into his new bedroom this weeked.

-Built-in-bookcases…We’re trying to decide how to complete my crazy idea of adding built-ins to the wall with the windows. It’s a little difficult to do since there are two vents on the floor in front of the wall. We looked into buying bookshelves and retrofitting them to look like built-ins. Unfortunately, the standard shelf width is too wide.

-Framing the new magnetic chalkboard (I need to make the 2nd post). I changed my mind about framing the chalkboard with an orange border and I think that we’ll go with a more traditional wooden trim and tray to catch the dust.

-Making artwork…I found these great distressed frames that I’m so excited to use for the map artwork, but I still need to find a few more maps. And, I need to wait for the frames to go on sale again at Hobby Lobby to pick up a few more.

-Cleaning out the closet…It’s full of extra frames and home decor, out of season clothes/shoes/coats, too-small baby clothes, and who knows what else!

-Blackout shades for the windows. What can I say? The boy takes after me! We need it to be DARK to sleep.

-Activity table…Noah got an amazing Land of Nod activity table for his 1st birthday from Grandma and Grandpa V. I’d love to put it in his room. It’s dark wood, but doesn’t quite match the existing furniture. I’m thinking it would be fun to paint the top, but I’m not sure that I have the guts to paint a new piece of furniture.

-Bedding…I’d like to make a new crib skirt. But, I can’t find any fabric that works. Eh.

I think that’s about it. I’ve made so much progress already, but there is much more to do to turn the plain beige bedroom into the ultimate play/sleep room for our adorable toddler who is going to be a wonderful big brother. In a few short months his little world is going to to turned upside down (in a good way, I hope).  Knowing him, he’ll be making us laugh through our sleep deprivation with his funny faces and silly dances. This room re-do seems like a lot of work for a little guy, but it’s worth it when I picture the fun he’ll have playing and imagining and dreaming in there.

Our little man

  1. Ahh…loved the last part about Noah. He totally deserves a the work – you’re such a great mom!

  2. I love old prints too, especially maps. You can get some interesting map prints on Ebay, most of which come from the Library of Congress’ online digital collections. I bet there are some fantastic Chicago maps there. I had looked into a great 1800s El Paso map that I considered getting dad & Linda for Christmas. Here it is:*+%2Bmap&_sacat=0&_sop=15&_odkw=el+paso+il*+map

    And check this out!

    Good luck with your projects.
