Notes From Our Nest

A blog about life, love and learning

Not much blogging has been happening in the past few weeks, as you may have noticed. I have been busy with a bunch of decorating projects and the hubby has been working away on the utility room.

Here’s a list of what we’ve been up to…unfortunately we don’t have any photo progress. I guess we’ll save that for the big reveal in a few weeks (I hope it’s just weeks!)

1) Slowly moving Noah into his big boy bedroom. He now naps in the crib in his new room, but he doesn’t sleep there at night. We still need to a) trim his magnet/chalkboard and b) install a dimmer on his light c) find a chair d) decide if we need a small table.

2) Decorating the family room. Our new furniture arrived on Saturday and we LOVE it! The new modern furniture makes all of the work we have done look even better. I have spent the week searching for end tables, rugs, and other finishing touches to complete the “Divine Design” of our room. I’ve been to four different Home Goods, my new favorite store Home Decorator’s Collection, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel (and the Naperville outlet), three Target stores, where else…? I ordered this rug today (!!!) from Overstock.

3) Hunting for the perfect dresser on Craigslist for the new baby’s nursery. I found it and I get to pick it up this weekend. It’s going to be turquoise and fabulous when I’m done with it. Hooray!

4) I’ve been collecting “big boy” toys for Noah. I noticed a few weeks ago that he was getting tired of the baby toys that he’s been playing with since his first birthday, so we upgraded! He is now the proud owner of a Little Tikes outdoor climber, a Little Tikes kitchen set and grocery cart, and a Little Tikes Sand and Water table. Welcome huge plastic monstrosities! We also have our eyes on a train table and a few other things for Noah. Since he’s going to be spending a lot of time at home this summer, we need to try to keep him entertained!

Handy Hubby:
1) Insulating the utility room. What a thankless job!

2) Drywalling. This job is taking soooo long, but it looks great. I can’t wait to see the walls finished (soon?)

3) Removing the old linoleum from the utility room floor. This involves kneeling on the floor with the Dremel Multimax and scraping it off in 1″ by 12″ sections then treating the floor with a chemical adhesive remover. After the chemical sits for 2 hours, he scrapes off the adhesive with a metal tool and cleans the floor. It’s amazing that you can now see the concrete floor.

Up next in the utility room is finishing the few random pieces of missing drywall, having it professionally finished, and scraping the rest of the floor. THEN…we get to do the finish work. I can’t wait to see it come together.

Have a great week! xoxo
