Reveal: The Family Room

I’m so excited to finally share with you the second phase of our family room makeover. We started last summer by leveling out the floor, re-drywalling the entire space, re-facing the fireplace, building a toy storage closet, adding a wet bar, and installing hardwood flooring…but it never felt quite “finished” to me. We still had the hubby’s huge black leather bachelor furniture. I know, I know, it’s silly to discount all of that hard work just because we didn’t have new furniture. But, it just looks so much more complete now! (Despite the fact that the fireplace is only about 80% complete)

I can’t seem to find the “Before” photos on my computer, so I’ll just show you the “After.” It leaves out the massive transformation, but hopefully you’ll appreciate the finished product all the same!

Ta dah!!

The homemade artwork and color inspiration

Color Inspiration: (The artwork over the sofa) I saw a similar piece in Better Homes & Gardens Renovation Style magazine and decided to copy it. I used a 36″ X 48″ canvas (Thank you to the guy at Michael’s for giving me 40% off!) and painted it with the turquoise chalkboard paint from Noah’s new room. I was planning to use white chalk to create the swirlies, but I only had colored. Lime green looked the best with the background, so I went for it. I’m so happy I did! The turquoise & lime accents in the color scheme fell into place so easily. Without the color inspiration, the room felt bland.

These chairs make me so happy!

This is the madeover $15 Goodwill coffee table. Not bad!

If you haven’t seen the other half of our renovation, here are a couple of shots (Below. I can’t get this post to line up!). We tried to create a space for entertaining that functions when we have large parties, but works well on a day-to-day basis.

The beautiful wet bar.

Hopefully you’ll come see it in person very soon!

  1. So that’s what you’ve been up to. Wow! It looks incredible. I love the color and material choices. The Dewey Decimal System entertainment center and absinthe greens make you think of the 20s, but everything is so modern. It’s a great effect. The architectural fireplace really shines now too.

    Quality work Meg!

  2. Beautiful!
